Renewed humpback activity close to Blasket islands
Just a few minutes ago we got confirmation of yet more humpback activity a couple of miles off the Blasket Islands. After a tip off from a local fisherman, Nick Massett of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) set out in his RIB to check out the area by sea and within a short time located the humpback whale. He observed the Humpback bubble-netting and lunge feeding but as the whale didn't fluke wasn't able to ascertain if this animal is new to the area or one of the ones that were identified by their unique tail fluke pattern a couple of weeks ago.
Tomorrow for the afternoon tour Blasket Islands Eco Marine Tours will be heading out toward the coordinates where the whale was sighted today and with a bit of luck we'll be able to watch it for ourselves!
